Fall 2017 Box
This season's box is inspired by cooler days, the changing leaves, and the earthy tones that Fall brings in Nova Scotia. This past summer certainly was beautiful, but the Fall really is a lovely time of year. The golden light and crisp-yet-somehow-warm air signals a time of comfort and preparation for the winter ahead.
Each item was carefully selected from partners who are not only talented, but also care about their community and the environment!
Special shout-out to the wildly talented, adventurous, and inspirational Stephanie Florentina for the beautiful Nova Scotia landscape and product photography on our website.
Fundy Treasures- Pumpkin Spice Candle
Fundy Treasures was created from a love of the Bay of Fundy and its surrounding landscape. Owners Brian and Laura turned their love for rock hounding, tourism and their community into a thriving gift shop and guided tour business in Joggins, Nova Scotia. Having both grown up in small communities along the Bay of Fundy, the landscape of the Bay inspires their products and services. Made on site with 100% soy wax, their candles are hand poured and each contain specially selected Bay of Fundy tumbled agate, beach glass, amethyst or Nova Scotia crystal. The Pumpkin Spice candle is a fall favorite with hints of cinnamon and nutmeg that evokes a feeling of coziness on a chilly afternoon.
Breakers Wood- Cutting Board
Daryl Wasson is passionate about working with wood and it's many different natural colors and grains. Based in Dartmouth Nova Scotia, Daryl has been working passionately on his business since 2002. Apart from milling his own wood from the Maritimes, he collects discarded end pieces from a factory in Nova Scotia that would have otherwise been burned or thrown into the landfill. Daryl rescues these remnant pieces to recycle them into works of art that can be used every day. Daryl designs and handcrafts each piece, taking into careful consideration his customer's needs.
Made with Local- Sticky Squirrel Granola Bar
Founders Kathy and Sheena started Made with Local after realizing that healthy snacking options were either NOT delicious, or NOT actually healthy and full of all kinds of weird stuff (or both). The two sourced a variety of ingredients from local farmers and food producers and launched their Real Food Bars at the Halifax Seaport Farmer's Market in June 2012. Now, Made with Local products can be found at Sobey’s, Bulk Barn and other major and local grocers across Canada. Made with Local has partnered with social enterprises The Flowercart Group in New Minus and the Dartmouth Adult Services Center in Dartmouth to produce their delicious bars, oats and mixes. The Sticky Squirrel Granola bar is jam-packed with creamy peanut butter and sweetened with a Maritime favorite - Crosby's molasses. A classic combination that's graced East-Coast kitchen tables for ages!
Ingredients: oats, natural peanut butter, peanuts, molasses, pumpkin seeds, honey, pumpkin pie spices. Contains peanuts. May contain tree nuts, wheat.
Peace by Chocolate- Maple Leaf Milk Chocolates
For more than 20 years the Hadad family operated a successful chocolate factory, employing 30 people in Damascus, Syria. They shipped their specialty treats from Damascus all over the Middle East to countries like Yemen, Jordan and Lebanon. Like much of their homeland, the Hadhad chocolate factory was destroyed in a bombing that forced their family to leave everything behind and flee to Lebanon. For three years, Tareq Hadhad and his family lived in a refugee camp with little opportunity or hope. When their family was invited into Canada and became full Canadian citizens, their dream of rebuilding their lives and business came true. Since starting Peace by Chocolate at the beginning of 2016, they have been fortunate to share their passion for chocolate with new friends in their community of Antigonish, across Nova Scotia and now around the world. May have come in contact with nuts.
