Spring 2020

Spring in Nova Scotia is something special. When the snow starts to melt, the days get longer, and the birds start to sing, we all know that warmer weather is on the way.

We've curated items that are light and breezy from the shores of the Northumberland Straight to the Halifax Harbour.

Medium Roast Coffee - Paw Life Coffee Co. (Tidnish) - Paw Life Coffee Co. stems from a passion of coffee & animals. They believe in fresh, high quality coffee, as their coffee is hand roasted in small batches just for you! Paw Life Coffee also believe in the love of animals with 10% of their profits from each bag sold going to animal rescues and shelters to help animals find their 'furever' family.

Peace of Mind Chocolate Bar (White Chocolate and Caramel) - Peace by Chocolate (Antigonish) – For more than 20 years the Hadad family operated a successful chocolate factory, employing 30 people in Damascus, Syria. They shipped their specialty treats from Damascus all over the Middle East to countries like Yemen, Jordan and Lebanon. Like much of their homeland, the Hadhad chocolate factory was destroyed in a bombing that forced their family to leave everything behind and flee to Lebanon. For three years, Tareq Hadhad and his family lived in a refugee camp with little opportunity or hope. When their family was invited into Canada and became full Canadian citizens, their dream of rebuilding their lives and business came true. Since starting Peace by Chocolate at the beginning of 2016, they have been fortunate to share their passion for chocolate with new friends in their community of Antigonish, across Nova Scotia and now around the world. Proceeds from the Peace of Mind Bar help fund mental health outreach initiatives throughout Canada, with the hope of connecting all Canadians with the resources they need to thrive. We all have mental health, and we are all in this together.

Lavender Linen Spray - New Scotland Candle Co.  (Kentville) New Scotland Candle Co., a wife and husband team, make deliciously scented candles and melts that are hand poured in small batches in their home in Port Williams, Nova Scotia. Made with 100% soy wax, cotton based wicks, and premium oils, all of their candles are free of dyes and burn completely cool and clean compared to traditional paraffin candles. As an added treasure, each candle has a piece of sea glass foraged from the shores of Cape Breton.

Scotia Blend Haskap Preserve - Hazzberry Farms  (Atlantic Canada) - Twenty-eight Maritime Haskap berry farmers have created a business partnership, using their talents and their berries to create tasty and nutritious products for the Maritime market and beyond. HazzBerry Farms is 100% owned and operated by Haskap growers from Nova Scotia, New Brunswick and Prince Edward Island.

To-Do Notepad - Classy Cards (Windsor Junction) - Classy Cards is a small, one woman (plus help from her husband) shop located in Halifax, Nova Scotia. Classy Cards started as a hobby with an online Etsy shop, and as orders increased it quickly turned into a full time job. Their products are shipped all around the world (to over 40+ countries), spreading joy through warm wishes and a tiny bit of inappropriate and sarcastic humour. Classy Cards simply say what everyone else is thinking.

Maud Lewis Travel Mug and Pen - Art Gallery of Nova Scotia (Halifax and Yarmouth) - With locations in downtown Halifax and Yarmouth, the Art Gallery of Nova Scotia is the largest art museum in Atlantic Canada. Since 1908, the Gallery has been a gateway for the visual arts in Atlantic Canada. Maud Lewis (1903-1970) had no formal training in the visual arts. Like many folk artists, she painted for the joy of adding color, light and fun to a poverty stricken rural existence.
